My Train Quest Renewed

Since my quest to ride every Pendolino in service ended last August, I've not really been paying attention to trains in the way I was. As I paced up the platform at Euston this morning though, my eye was involuntarily drawn to the train on the next platform.

390-055

I felt uneasy. 390-055. That couldn't be right.

390-055 is a new Pendolino that, it turns out, went into service on the 9th of January. It's one of the four new 11 car sets due to start running this year but, like 390-054, has been pressed into early service as a nine car set. An eager train enthusiast managed to bag video of it rolling through Crewe just before Christmas, before it even started service. Note the Virgin, Alstom, and Angel Trains logos on the cab, but that it lacks a nameplate. It's a shame these new trains don't have names. Perhaps they will be named next month, when the start operating with all 11 cars. Many of the existing sets are also being upped to 11 cars at the same time - perhaps there might be a bit of renaming there too?
